Brussels, 05/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - China has decided to impose anti-dumping measures on imports of catechol originating in the European Union. From Monday on, deliveries of this substance generally used as an antiseptic as well as in the production of rubber and photographic developing, will have a temporary surcharge from 50-92%. The opinion published by the Ministry of Trade and Economic Cooperation (Moftec) under the terms of a preliminary inquiry initiated on 1 March this year does not specify the deadline for such measures. They will be reviewed once the procedure is closed, it is indicated, specifying that the investigation now shows that these imports have caused substantial injury to Chinese industries. This is the first time that China - which became the 144th member of the World Trade Organisation early this year - takes provisional measures based on the new anti-dumping legislation which took effect on 1 January 2002.
