Strasbourg, 29/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption last week of the own initiative report by Michel Hansenne (EPP-ED, Belgium) devoted to the nineteenth Commission report on the Community's anti-dumping and anti-subsidy activities, the European Parliament invited the Commission to review the question of transparency and the whole of its decision-making process concerning the taking or modification of a measure and, above all, access to information and the right to be heard. It also calls on the Commission to specify whether it is necessary to review its current method for dealing with anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard issues and to reallocate its resources - given the increased workload foreseen in this field - to assessment and to supervision of measures relating to enlargement. The Commission is also invited to ensure the necessary follow-up in order to counter the increase in anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures taken against Community industries and to seek cooperation possibilities at WTO level, including with regard to technical assistance to third countries. Finally, the Parliament urges the Commission to make a contribution to the WTO negotiating group on these issues.
