European Parliament calls for more generous definition of refugee status and subsidiary protection - very close vote, with EPP opposition

Strasbourg, 22/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - It was a very divided European Parliament that finally approved the Lambert report on Tuesday on the definition of refugee status and subsidiary protection (278 in favour, 242 against and 6 abstentions), having rejected the restrictive amendments of the EPP-ED Group. As the British Green, Jean Lambert, proposed, Parliament thus calls on the Council to follow an even more generous line than that of the Commission. The Liberals (except one opposition...
