Brussels, 17/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - For the third consecutive year, the Solidar Silver Rose Awards were handed out at a ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels on 16 October, by British Socialist Glenys Kinnock to: Alexander Starikevick, editor-in-chief of the Belarus opposition newspaper "Belaruski Chas"; - the Belgian painter-artist Jean-Michel Folon: - PAIF (Promotion et Appui aux Initiatives feminines), an association based in Goma (Democratic Republic of Congo) that combats human rights violations committed against women; - Dr. Sima Samar, first woman minister in Afghanistan. This award honours those who have campaigned, with their means, for social justice, democracy, human rights, minority rights and disadvantaged groups in Europe and throughout the world. The Awards 2002 benefited from financial assistance from the European Socialist Party, the European Commission and Weber Shandwick Adamson.
