Brussels, 09/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday afternoon in Brussels, after a debate on enlargement (see pages 4 to 7), the European Parliament heard speeches by the Danish Presidency and European Commissioner Chris Patten on the crisis in Iraq. After discussing employment (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.11, and 30 September/1October, p.17), and the association agreement with Algeria, a Commission declaration on the crisis after the attempted coup d'état in Ivory Coast was added. Then, following the debate on the Vidal Quadras report on the energy efficiency of buildings, there was the Berend Report on the new Solidarity Fund for Disaster Relief (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.12). On Thursday morning, the Parliament will also discuss the Westendorp report on EU aid to Yugoslavia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
