Brussels, 13/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - As part of his tour of Central European countries while they gear up for the decisive deadlines which are fast approaching for their EU accession, Commissioner Franz Fischler will be visiting Latvia on Monday and Estonia the following day. He is seeking to provide these countries with "objective" information on the enlargement process by insisting, like he did in Poland (see above), on the advantages of candidate countries integrating into the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). He is expected to repeat that the Commission proposals on agriculture and enlargement funding are "fair and balanced", as well as the real challenge of restructuring and farm modernisation. In Latvia, the Commissioner will be meeting with President Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Prime Minister Andris Berzins. He will also be attending a Ministerial meeting on agriculture for the Baltic countries. In Estonia, he will hold talks with the Agriculture Minister, Mr Marrandi and Members of the Parliamentary committees on social and rural affairs.
