13/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Just as the list of US imports that might be hit by prohibitive surcharges was published by the EU, a list destined for "detailed analysis" by the companies concerned, the EU's business representative hailed the sensible strategy the EU is in the process of employing in the FSC case. Eurocommerce warned, however: "It is important that Europe's counter measures meet all necessary conditions for effectiveness, but it must be excluded in any case that they cause harm to commerce in Europe in its ability to deliver to consumers products of best price and quality". De-escalation must be given core priority, argues Eurocommerce, wanting both sides to settle the transatlantic trade dispute amicably.
