The Belgian non-ferrous metals group UMICORE is studying a possible partnership in the copper business with KOVANCO, the reference shareholder of the copper and aluminium producer, LAMITREF INDUSTRIES. With annual copper production amounting to 250,000 tonnes, LAMITREF achieved, in 2001, a turnover of EUR 630 million as opposed to one billion in copper alone for UMICORE.
