Brussels, 07/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission adopted a five-year co-operation plan with Ghana, with a budget of EUR 311. The "Strategy Document" for Ghana covers all aspects of co-operation in keeping with the Cotonou Agreement signed in 2000 between the EU and other ACP partners. The Commission has indicated that it will "support efforts by the government to achieve good economic growth and reduce poverty, within a healthy democratic framework. The main sectors receiving support are rural development, road transport and the macro-economy. According to Commission forecasts, which could be revised, EUR 231 million will be used to fund these objectives, 80 million will be kept aside for emergencies, budget deficits or the loss of export revenue.
