Brussels, 01/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - Following an inquiry initiated in April 2000, the European Commission presented, on 29 July, a proposal to the Council with a view to establishing a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of colour television sets from the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. The Commission, moreover, recommends closing the procedure concerning imports of colour TV from Singapore. The findings of the inquiry led to the conclusion that there was a likelihood of harmful dumping being continued after expiry of the anti-dumping measures in force for all countries concerned except Singapore, mainly because of the large colour TV and cathode tube production capacity there and the low prices, which are lower than those of the Community industry. Hence the need, the Commission believes, for anti-dumping measures to be kept in place. As far as Singapore is concerned, the Commission considers that expiry of the anti-dumping measures should be authorised due to the fall in production capacities, its exports towards the EU and the fact that prices are not under-quoted.
