WTO declares compensation measures hitting former public European steel plants illegal

Brussels/Geneva, 01/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The trade defence policy of the USA on steel imports received another blow in Geneva with the adoption on Wednesday of two panel reports concluding that the US law on the imposition of countervailing duties (CVD) on privatised foreign steel companies and the threshold for imposing such duties are incompatible with WTO rules.
