Danish presidency prioritises current issues

Brussels, 15/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Parliamentary committee for culture welcomed the Danish Minister for Culture, Audio-visual, Sport and Intellectual Property Rights, Brian Mikkelsen, who came to address the committee to explain his country's priorities during its Presidency.

"The Danish Presidency is going to be a working Presidency that's going to sort out current issues", declared Minister Mikkelsen when presenting the different aspects of the Presidency's action. In the audio-visual field, Mr Mikkelsen considered that before thinking about revising the Television without Borders directive, they needed a period for gathering information, analysing and processing it. The conclusion of a study carried out by the Commission in the field of mobility and free movement of people and work will be discussed by the Council in an effort to identify the problems and obstacles confronting those working in the area, explained the Minister. He also announced that the conditions for content production in new interactive media would be on the Danish Presidency's agenda. The Minister stated that he shared some of the worries expressed by the Italian Socialist, Renzo Imbeni, involving the "digital" gap between citizens. On the theme of sport, the Minister explained that action against doping in sport would be a priority.
