Commission may begin infringement proceedings against France which refuses to lift embargo on Portuguese beef

Brussels, 25/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission could be sending a warning letter in July (first stage in infringement proceeding within Article 226 of the Treaty) to France for not respecting Community decisions on lifting the embargo on Portuguese beef.

At the end of July 2001, the Commission decided to authorise, counting from 1 August, the partial start up of beef exports form Portugal (see EUROPE 27 July). This decision was enacted after the Commission adopted the...
