24/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Women's Lobby stressed that women and girls make up over half of the world's refugees (numbering around 14 million). It welcomed the decision by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to dedicate the second World Refugee Day, on 20 June, to women refugees. "We must reiterate that the right to protection is a basic human right", Denise Fuchs, President of the European Women's Lobby, recalled on this occasion.
