Aznar "neither optimistic nor pessimistic"

Athens, 12/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - Continuing his tour of the European capitals in Athens before the Seville Summit, José Maria Aznar said, after a meeting with his Greek counterpart, Costas Simitis, that he was "neither optimistic nor pessimistic" about the possibility of settling; in Seville, the issue of the agreement to be concluded between the EU and the Atlantic Alliance on the use of NATO means and resources by the European Union for EU-led operations under ESDP (the agreement is blocked by Greek reservation on the "Ankara compromise" obtained with Turkey with mediation of the United Kingdom and the US). "It is important to take into consideration the sensitivities of all", stressed Mr Aznar, and, with an allusion to the World Cup, he said "we hope to score a goal". (We recall that a declaration annexed to the Ankara text is one of the solutions envisaged)
