THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/paneuropa-union/convention

11/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to a press release, at the meeting of the Paneuropa-Union (chaired by the CSU member of the EP, Bernd Posselt), in Saarbrucken last week, the Bundestage representative in the European Convention, Peter Altmeier pleaded in favour the European Parliament electing the President of the Commission and placed emphasis on the priority of enlargement, stating that the "European elections of 2004 must be a definitive signal of Europe's reunification". As for former Slovene Prime Minister, Alojz Peterle, representative of the Slovenian Parliament in the Convention, he underpinned the "intellectual work" provided by the Convention, while considering that candidate countries were fuelled by a greater desire for reform than the current members of the European Union.
