Brussels, 11/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana, the High Representative for CFSP, had talks in Belgrade on Monday with the Presidents of Yugoslavia, Vojislav Kostunica and Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic, on the implementation of the 14 March Agreement ensuring the transition of the current Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to a future Serbia and Montenegro Union. In a joint statement, the participants "welcomed the positive decisions of the Parliaments of Montenegro and Serbia as well as the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on the March 14 Agreement", and, "noted with satisfaction that the members of the Commission for drafting the Constitutional Charter have now been appointed". They invite the members to strictly base the drafting work on the March 14 Agreement and aim for the broadest possible agreement, thus facilitating the necessary parliamentary approval of the Constitutional Charter. At the same time, they stress that "intensive efforts will be undertaken to agree on the modalities of achieving the harmonisation of trade and customs policy and the establishment of a common market". The participants announced that they would do everything "to move this process forward rapidly", and welcome the EU's "readiness to offer, if necessary, advice and expertise".
