31/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - Lucas Papademos took up his post on 1 June as Vice-President of the European Central Bank, for eight years. The former Governor of the Greek Central Bank replaces France's Christian Noyer (see Europe of 22/23 April, p.7 and 24 April, p.13, over Mr. Papademos' hearing before the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Committee, and 15 May, p.12 for plenary's green light to the appointment of Mr. Papademos).
