Shipbuilding - Trans-European networks - Phytopharmaceutical products - Company liability

Brussels, 30/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - At Thursday's plenary the EP took the following positions, adopting:

A resolution on the shipbuilding sector in which it calls on the Council to adopt the temporary defence mechanism at the next Council meeting against South-Korean dumping. According to Danish Liberal Karin Riis-Joergensen, the Commission should take the case straight to the WTO.

The report by British Conservative Philip Bradbourn on reviewing the guidelines for extending the trans-European transport network. Belgian Liberal Dirk Sterckx criticised the two biggest political groups for supporting six new projects unveiled by the European Commission without any independent assessment justifying their choice.

The report by British Labour MEP Richard Howitt on company social liability, which had been considerably changed (see EUROPE of 27/28 May, p.18).

The report by Belgian Green Paul Lannoye on the assessment of active substances in phytopharmaceutical products.

Various common draft texts agreed upon in conciliation with the Council, including the one on the Community Action Programme for the Environment (2001-2010).

EUROPE will return to these votes in more detail.
