Brussels, 23/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the Commission authorised two aid schemes granted in 2001 by Spain to the Hunosa coal company: - aid of EUR 35.531 for reduced activity, and aid of EUR 19.508 million for covering exceptional costs. The Commission, however, did not authorise further aid of EUR 4.225 million to cover operating losses of plants of the former Minas de Lieres company that Hunosa reopened in 1994. Furthermore, it called on Spain to refund EUR 19.508 in aid paid between 1998 and 2000, having noted that the coal company used State aid to cover operating losses in the Minas de Lieres installations, although the aid was initially intended to cover losses in other Hunosa production units.
