Brussels, 10/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - A liaison officer from Norway has just begun his duties at the seat of the European police office in The Hague. Stein Anersen, Deputy Superintendent of the Norwegian national police, is the first liaison officer from a third country nominated to Europol. The exchange of liaison officers is one of the points foreseen by the co-operation agreement signed in June 2001 between Norway and Europol. Europol, which signed such agreements with Iceland, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Interpol and the European Drugs Office, announces that other liaison officers will be nominated in the coming months. Europol is in the process of negotiating new agreements with all the candidate countries for accession to the European Union, as well as with other countries and international organisations.
