EU appeal against any force against Arafat's headquarters - Chris Patten's accusations levelled at Israel

Brussels, 22/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - On behalf of the EU on Saturday, the Spanish Presidency adopted the following declaration on the situation in the Middle East, following a unanimous vote in the Security Council in favour of sending in a fact-finding mission to Jenin (unofficial translation):

"The EU instantly calls for the immediate access of medical and humanitarian organisations to the Palestinian populations, as requested by Resolution 1405 voted last night by the United Nations...
