22/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The EP's working group on human rights had an exchange of views with Israeli and Palestinian women belonging to organisations fighting for peace in the Middle East, and, at the end of the meeting, Spanish United Left MEP Pedro Marset Campos suggested organising a similar meeting at the American Congress. On that occasion, Israeli Debby Lerman read out a joint declaration calling, in particular, for an end to the Israeli occupation and the share of Jerusalem, and Galia Golan, founder of the movement "Peace in Israel Now", noted that "the reality in the occupied territories is not known by most Israelis, who prefer to consider themselves victims". On the Palestinian side, "Maha Abu Daye Shammas, Director of the Centre of Women for aid and legal advice, placed emphasis on the role of the European Union in the peace process, and Janwa Riad Dijanu, of the Ministry of Youth, spoke of the difficulty of Palestinians living in Jerusalem. Susha Sibani, of Arab culture but Israeli citizen, stressed the increased marginalisation and discrimination Arabs were suffering in Israel.
