Workshop in Florence with Mr Caveri

Brussels, 11/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Assembly of the Regions of Europe (ARE) are organising a workshop on 19 April in Florence on, "Regions and Sustainable Transport". Luciano Caveri, President of the European Parliament's "Regional Policy, Transport and Tourism Committee" will be speaking about "Which future for the Common Transport Policy? The contribution of the European Parliament to the definition of new governance". The ARE also points out in its Declaration on transport that it regretted that the White Paper did not recognise the key role of regions and local authorities in transport strategies.

This first workshop on the role of the regions and sustainable transport will examine a certain number of "good regional practices". Riccardo Conti will be providing an account of the Region of Toscan and the security and environmental performance of the system of passenger and road transport; Renzo Farinet on the Gran San Bernardo project in Val d'Aosta; Pierre Meyer on Franco-German co-operation in Alsace, Istvan Sernya on the promotion of inland waterways in the Danube Basin (the Baranya region in Hungary); Herwig Schnüerer on Good Practices of Regional Intermodality in the Salzburg Land; Paulo Menezez on Regional Aviation as an alternative, environmentally friendly mode of transport in the Azores. "What prospects for the enlargement of TENs-T to candidate countries?" will also be discussed, with the participation of Cosma Alexandru (Romania).
