10/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - German Finance Minister Hans Eichel said after a meeting in Berlin with US Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, that "our common objective is to avoid a trade war" in the EU/US dispute over steel. Paul O'Neill pointed out that the United States is seeking to establish dialogue on the fringe of the WTO, to reach a result that allows the non-profit-making capacities of the sector to be reduced, Mr Eichel also explained.
