Greens/EFA Group meets NGOs

Brussels, 08/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Group of the Greens and European Free Alliance last week organised a meeting in Brussels with some thirty representatives of non-governmental organisations and trade unions in the context of mobilisation and dialogue with society as a whole, to fuel the work of the European Convention. After the meeting, the co-chairperson of the group, Monica Frassoni (Italian member elected in Belgium) said she hoped this kind of meeting could take place regularly in order to maintain "permanent dialogue with the civil society". "NGOs and the trade unions formulated very concrete demands, such as improved access to Convention, better access to documents and the end of secretiveness in the Praesidium", noted the only Green representative within the Convention, Austrian Johannes Voggenhuber, who promised to bring up these issues at the meeting of the EP delegation to the Convention to be held this week in Strasbourg.
