Brussels, 19/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the German pharmaceutical company, Boehringer Ingelheim have signed a contract to the tune of EUR 62.5 million. This funding will be used to finance the construction of a bio-pharmaceutical products factory at Biberach/Riss (Baden-Württenburg), with the goal of doubling the industrial capacity of the Boehringer Ingelheim company. The total amount of the investments for the Biberach factory will involve around EUR 250 million, of which EUR 125 million will come from EIB loans. Boehringer Ingelheim is a pharmaceutical research company with branches in 140 countries. Turnover for 2000 was EUR 6.2billion, 70% of which came from outside the EU. The company employs a staff of 27,000. Consumer pharmaceutical products for the company accounts for 95% of its turnover.
