First volume of European Council Commentary series

Brussels, 12/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Laeken Council, by Peter Ludlow, is the first in the volume of the European Council Commentary series and has been published just a few days before the opening of the Barcelona Summit. The author, President of EuroComment and founding Director of the Centre for European Studies, uses the volume to analyse in a detailed manner the results and process of the most recent European Council, which he had followed very closely, particularly that of the main decision calling for a Convention on the Future of Europe. According to Mr Ludlow, the Union has clearly begun to work move towards a new era. He also explains that the European Council of Laeken reflected "our confusion" rather than lighting up the path but does, nonetheless, deserve to be called, "historic". Despite this confusion with a Constitution, Mr Ludlow claims that we will have a tool, at least, that will unveil hypocrisy and smash ignorance. He also announced that similar publications on future European Councils would be appearing, every four years or even more regularly. (Peter Ludlow: the Laeken Council.
