Brussels, 26/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 25 February, the Spanish Presidency issued the following statement on behalf of the EU:
"The European Union welcomes the establishment of a new government in Albania. The European Union trusts that the Government of Prime Minister Majko will continue on the path of reforms. The European Union recalls its willingness to start as soon as possible negotiations for a Stabilisation and Association Agreement, as stated by its General Affairs Council on 28 January. In that context, it encourages all political forces in Albania to unify now their efforts in order to accelerate the implementation of the reforms essential for Stabilisation and Association Agreement negotiations".
