Dublin, 26/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Movement Ireland has reacted to the interim report of the "National Forum on Europe" set in place in Ireland after the "no" at the referendum on the Treaty of Nice. It mainly notes that discussions within the Forum have confirmed "overwhelming support for EU enlargement". "In our view, ratification of the Nice Treaty is an inevitable condition for making enlargement possible", stresses the European Movement, which also considers that the work of the Forum has so far clearly shown that the affirmation whereby the EU will be "militarised" is not at all justified. Regarding the arguments on the role of national parliaments in the building of Europe, the press release affirms that "specific deficiencies identified in Ireland may and must be settled in Ireland, and we are entirely free to do so".
