Brussels, 19/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - After two consecutive months of decreases in October and November, seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the euro zone rose by 0.8% in December 2001, compared to November of the same year, according to figures published by Eurostat. Industrial production in the fifteen countries of the EU increased by 0.6% in December, having fallen 0.4% in November and 1.6% in October. In a year, industrial production has fallen by 4.1% in the euro zone and 4.4% in the EU15. Compared to November 2001, rises were recorded in Ireland (11.6 %), the Netherlands (3.2%), Denmark (2.7%), Germany (1.7%), Italy (1.6%), decreases in Portugal (-1.6%), Spain (-1.2%), France (-0.9%), Finland (-0.7%) and the united Kingdom (-0.3%). In one month, production in the energy sector increased by 1.8% in the euro zone and 1.6% in the EU15, and that of durable and non-durable consumer goods registered an increase of 1.4% and 0.8%, respectively in the euro xone and 1.0% and 0.9% in the EU15. The index for intermediary goods fell by 0.6% in the euro zone and 0.7% in the EU15, whereas capital goods fell by 0.2% and 0.5%.
