Athens, 14/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou announced that, when holding the Presidency of the European Union Council in the second half of 2003, Greece would launch initiatives in view of shaping a more co-ordinated European policy towards Arab countries. Speaking at a luncheon given in his honour by the Hellenic-Arab Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Mr. Papandreou said that, having devoted its attention to Eastern Europe over the past decade, Europe should now turn more towards the Arab countries. On the same occasion, Development Minister Akis Tzohatzopoulos stressed the importanc, in the coming years, that should be given to the linking of transport, telecommunications and energy networks between the Arab countries and the EU, through Greece.
