13/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - Foreign Office Secretary, Jack Straw, is in Israel and the Palestinian territories for talks with Ariel Sharon and Yasser Arafat. The visit was announced during a Gymnich-style EU meeting for Foreign Ministers at Caceres (see EUROPE 11-12 February page 6). The visit will be followed by that of Joschka Fischer. Both Mr Straw and Mr Fischer will provide a report-back on their meetings to the General Affairs Council on 18 February.
