Brussels, 16/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Having read the high level Task force final report on "Competencies and Mobility", that will be presented to the Barcelona Summit (see EUROPE 21 December page 10), the Council of European Cadres (Eurocadres) has called on the Commission to prepare its action plan with an integrated approach that takes into account both the problem of unemployment and training qualifications. Eurocadres believes that the question is not how to make the labour market more flexible but rather how to improve the quality of jobs and training in an open European area.
Eurocadres is particularly pleased with the proposal put forward by the Task Force that calls for a European framework to be set up that recognises qualifications and diplomas, together with a European platform with its social partners. Eurocadres also stresses the need to recognise the competencies acquired in one's professional experience.
Eurocadres is recognised as a European social partner by the European institutions. It brings together 5 million managerial and professional staff in Europe and is associated to the European of Trade Union Confederation.
