Brussels, 16/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - At the Informal Council on Employment in Burgos, Anna Diamantopoulou will officially launch the idea of creating a European health insurance card. This health card is one of the Commission's action plan measures that will be presented on 5 February. Supported by the Competencies and Mobility Task Force, this action plan aims to eliminate the obstacles to greater professional and geographical mobility in European labour markets by 2005 (see EUROPE 21 December page 10. This had already been announced in the spring report for the Barcelona Summit in Barcelona. A spokesperson stated that the card would replace the current health forms needed for health care in other Member States - the E11 and aims to simplify the procedures rather than modify existing rights and conditions in force.
