Brussels, 10/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Denmark has confirmed that during the second half of the European Union Council Presidency this year, it will hold its Informal European Council in Brussels. This will be the first Presidency to apply the decision taken by the European Council of Nice to hold only one Summit a year as from 2002, in which a Member State (once the Spanish Presidency has held its European Councils in Barcelona on 15-16 March and in Seville on 21-22 June) has assumed the Presidency of the EU Council. The Informal European Council of 24-25 October will take place in Brussels but the Formal European Council will take place on 12-13 December in Copenhagen. It had been agreed in Nice that all the Summits would take place in Brussels as soon as the Union had more than 18 Member States (therefore, in principle, in 2004).
