Brussels, 10/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission adopted two German rural development programmes as part of the Leader + initiative - one for Lower Saxony and the other for Thuringia.
- Lower Saxony. Total expenditure in 2001-2006 on the 17 Local Action Groups will be EUR 93.6 million, including an EU contribution of EUR 34.5 million and EUR 24.6 million from the private sector. The programme will aim to promote integrated and sustainable development, an improvement in the basic economic conditions with a view to creating jobs, improving the employment options for women and young people and enhancing natural and cultural heritage.
- Thuringia. Total expenditure over six years will reach EUR 41.9 million, including an EU contribution of EUR 22.1 million and EUR 12.4 million from the private sector. The programme will aim to enhance natural and cultural heritage, reinforce the economic environment in order to contribute to job creation and improving the organisational capacities of the rural community. The programme will support 12 Local Action Groups.
