Brussels, 26/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the take over of British company Powergen Plc by German company E.ON AG - both are major players in the energy industry. The Commission has concluded that the activities of the two parties do not overlap in any of the EEA countries where the two companies are present, with the exception of Scandinavia and the Netherlands. Even in these areas, the increment in market share is negligible and does not give rise to any worries concerning dominant positions in the markets concerned. E.ON made an agreed bid for Powergen in April of 765 pence per share and estimating total value of the company at EURR 15.3 billion. According to the financial press, the acquisition of Powergen by the German E.ON group, will mean that the company becomes number one in the energy sector.
