First Cybercrime Forum on Tuesday

Brussels, 26/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels on Tuesday the European Commission is organising the first Plenary Session of the EU Forum on Cybercrime, bringing together various stakeholders (industry, law enforcement agents, privacy protection authorities, civil liberties organisations, etc) in order to comment on all aspects of cybercrime and the development of EU policy in this area. At the end of January, the Commission issued a Communication on cybercrime, in which it suggested setting up the Cybercrime Forum and harmonising certain rules to improve the application of electronic communications law and provide confidence in internet transactions (see EUROPE of 30 January, p.7). In March, the first hearing was organised between industry representatives and NGOs, which revealed strong support for the creation of the Forum (see EUROPE of 10 March). Following on from its Communication, the Commission will be adopting in the next few days (later than expected) a draft Framework Decision on serious attacks on information systems.
