23/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Stuttgarter Zeitung has reported that Bernhard Zepter, Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission since 1997, is standing as the German Social Democratic Party's candidate to become the mayor of Freiburg (Oberbürgermeister). The paper explains that Mr Zepter will be throwing himself into the election campaign from mid-February onwards.
