Brussels, 21/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - Following the announcement, in recent months, of significant restructuring, company closures and massive redundancy plans, the Secretary General of the European Trade Union Confederation Emilio Gabaglio wrote a letter to the members of the European Commission in which he asserts: The Commission must ensure a better taking into account of the social impact of restructuring (…) It is absolutely necessary to reinforce the measures for prevention, information, consultation, debate and involvement of worker representatives during the announcement of restructuring. Supporting these statements, Emilio Gabaglio cites a few examples, such as the revision of the Directive on works councils or the development of the Observatory of industrial change (to enhance anticipation and change management capabilities).
