Fight against terrorism - strategic partnerships

Strasbourg, 25/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - With Thursday's approval of the report on progress made in the implementation of Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok (CDU), the European Parliament placed emphasis on the fight against terrorism, conflict prevention and crisis management, the parliamentary dimension of European Security and Defence Policy and the strategic partnerships between the EU and several regions of the world (including the Caucasus). In its resolution (to be published in EUROPE/Documents), the Parliament mainly recommends that the implementation of the association agreement with Israel and financial aid to the Palestinian Authority should be made subject to respect of the recommendations of the Mitchell Commission. It calls on the EU (amendment of the Liberal Group) to offer its services as a "loyal intermediary" to India and to Pakistan, to facilitate a settlement in Kashmir, and to help in the fight against terrorism.
