Strasbourg, 01/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - The two co-chairs of the EU/Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, German MEP Constanze Krehl (Socialist Group) and Vladimir Lukin, Russian Parliament, published a joint declaration for the attention of the European Union/Russia Summit meeting in Brussels on Wednesday (see above) in which the Delegations of the State Duma and Federation Council of the Russian Federation and of the European Parliament "call on their respective authorities to promote and put into action an international framework of security and to stand together in a strong, sustained and global action against terrorism".
Recalling that the EU and Russia had announced that they were to do all they could so that those responsible for the "acts of savagery" of 11 September be brought to justice and punished, Ms. Krehl and Mr. Lukin stress that, representing the people of the European Union and Russian Federation, they call on the EU and Russia to decide, on the occasion of the Summit of 3 October, on "concrete and specific measures of common effort in the fight against terrorism. The declaration continues: "This is an essential tasks for the security of all our citizens and the stability of our societies. We encourage the Governments and all involved institutions of the EU - Russia Cooperation to act without delay, with determination, and to make this battle against terrorist acts an absolute priority in global solidarity". A common policy aimed at hunting the perpetrators, organisers and instigators of terrorism wherever they are, "a policy that our people demand", say the European and Russian MEPs.
