Brussels, 01/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - CFSP High Representative Javier Solana received, on Sunday evening in Brussels, Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri after the trip by the EU Troika aimed at rallying a series of countries of the region to the joint fight against terrorism (see above). A "collective solution to terrorism" must be found, Mr Solana said after the meeting. In answer to questions put to him, he said that terrorists are those who take the lives of innocent civilians. "We are not, of course, against the Arab or Muslim countries, we are against terrorism", repeated Mr Solana. Mr Hariri, for his part, felt that a distinction should be made between terrorism and resistance to occupation. He noted that the definition of terrorism will be at the centre of a debate that is to open on 1 October at the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
