Hungary envisages liberalising part of electricity market from 2003

Budapest, 19/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Hungarian Government announced its intention of opening up the electricity sector to competition. The operation will be in two phases: an initial opening of 33% of the market for non-residential customers consuming over 6.4 gigawatt hours per day (industry and businesses) from 1 January 2003, and complete liberalisation of the sector by 2010.
