Clearance for aid to Siemens/Yazaki joint-ventures

Brussels, 10/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission decided to clear the creation of joint-ventures between the German firm Siemens VDO Automotive AG (belonging to the Siemens group) and Japanese Yazaki Corporation, which are to pool their activities in the field of electronic electrical distribution systems (EEDS) for the automotive industry. Siemens and Yazaki are both major players on the market of these products, but he Commission considers that the operation will pose no problems of competition as there are other large competitors and demand is especially highly concentrated.

The agreement provides for the creation of three joint-ventures: two will be responsible for the sale, programme management and development of electronic electric distribution systems for vehicles in the framework of the pooled activities of Siemens and Yazaki, and the third will manufacture vehicle wiring harnesses to supply the other two joint-ventures.
