Brussels, 12/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - European Commissioner Poul Nielson, will be on a mission to the Cameroon from 15 to 18 July and the Democratic Republic of Congo from 18 to 21 July.
In the Cameroon, he will sign the National Strategy Document (159 million euro). This first signing in the framework of the 9th EDF, will symbolically represent the "laying of the first stone" for implementation of the Cotonou Agreement, a press release stresses. In addition, Mr. Nielson will sign a financing convention for 1 million euro for a project aimed at alleviating irregularities linked to people being held in custody, and inaugurate the regional Bertoua-Garoua Boulai road.
In DRC, Nielson will discuss the peace process in the region of the Great Lakes and its impact on EU aid. The Commissioner, who will meet President Kasbila in Kinshasa and leaders of the local rebel movements in Goma signatories to the Lusaka Agreement, will take a final decision on the signing of the DRC's National Indicative Programme in the light of all his talks.
