05/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the report by the Swedish Conservative Lisbeth Gronfeldt Bergman, the Parliament modified in first reading, according to the codecision procedure, the draft Directive on measuring instruments. The amendments from the Parliament mainly try to guarantee transparency and the proper functioning of the internal market. This Directive aims to rationalise the existing legislation (a framework Directive and 23 specific Directives) and to create a single market for measurement instruments submitted to a legal checks: water counters, gas counters, active electricity counters and measurement transformers, heat counters, systems for continuous and dynamic measurement of quantities of liquid other than water, automatic weighing instruments, taxi meters, probing alcohol testers and exhaust gas testers.
