Brussels, 18/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - During its congress that took place on 7 and 8 June in Brussels, to which participated the Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou, the President of the Economic and Social Committee Goke Frerichs and the Secretary General of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) Emilio Gabaglio, the Council of European Professional and Managerial Staff (Eurocadres) called for the establishment of a European platform for the recognition of qualifications and diplomas. Mobility remains a concern for Eurocadres, too many obstacles remain against free movement, though established by the EU Treaty. Moreover, the recognition of qualifications is a vital priority as one cannot have a Europe of innovation and knowledge without more effective and more coherent measures for a true mutual recognition of qualifications and diplomas, explained Michel Rousselot, Eurocadres President.
The Congress also insisted for the EU Ministers for Social Affairs to adopt the Directive on the information-consultation of workers in national companies (as a reminder, they gave their political assent to this point during their meeting on 11 June in Luxembourg) and that the statute of European public limited company rapidly see the light of day. Companies cannot be managed only according to short-term financial criteria, but must take into account employees, the other partners and their environment. This stems from the European management model, which we are proposing. We will move in this direction during the next talks over the social responsibility of companies, added Michel Rousselot.
Eurocadres is recognised as a social partner by the European institutions and is affiliated to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). It gathers together 5 million managers in Europe, organised in various ways, in all the private and public sectors of industry, services and administrations.
