10/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Confederation of German Trade Unions, DGB, is organising for 28 May, in Brussels, a conference on the theme "Globalize Social Standards!". At the conference, Heinz Putzhammer, who is on the DGB Executive Board, will speak of "embedding core labour standards in the WTO system - a trade union demand". Commissioner Pascal Lamy will speak on the Commission's strategic approaches to the preparations for the 4th WTO ministerial conference, and Charles Picqué, Belgian Minister for Economic Affairs, will speak on social clauses and environmental standards in international trade.
